WINTER CLINIC - GREAT SUCCESS
The
weekend of January 28th-30th saw another
successful Winter Clinic organised by Baseball
Ireland.
On
Friday evening and Saturday, events took
place at Larkin Community College in Dublin's
city Centre. Visiting Coach Frank Fulton
had an opportunity to inspect some of the
emerging baseball talent in Ireland. Frank
works for 'Perfect Game' an organisation
that showcases talented young baseball players.
They host numerous events all over the U.S.
at which Major League and College scouts
get a chance to assess the abilities of
aspiring ball players.
Frank
has years of experience in the States and
in Europe. He was impressed by what he saw
in Dublin. Those
who attended the clinic were able to avail
of Frank's expertise and we all benefited
from some sound common sense baseball instruction.

On
Sunday we switched venue to St Gerard's School
in Bray. This was a chance for our younger
players to benefit from Frank's undoubted
genius. We kicked off with a coach's clinic
at 10.00am which was an invaluable experience
for all those involved. We hope to build on
the sterling work undertaken by Frank and
we will be running Coach accreditation courses
later in the year. From 12.00 to 2.00 it was
time to showcase the under 12's. Lots of fun
was had by all and none of the coaches were
seriously injured.
An
impressive turnout in the over 12 category
greatly impressed Frank. There clearly is
a wealth of talent in Greystones and those
playing in the Adult league can expect some
serious competition heading their way in
a couple of years. Frank has identified
a number of players who he would like to
get over to the States for a 'Perfect Game'
Showcase. Plans are already afoot to make
this happen.
Those
of you who missed the clinic missed a great
weekend. We would like to thank Frank and
all the coaches who contributed to the success
of the weekend. We would especially like
to thank the Principals of Larkin CC and
St Gerard's for making their sports facilities
available to us.
